13 things to do in Dunedin this weekend

Dunedin may not be as big as it’s surrounding cities but, it is just as packed with things to do! Known for a booming downtown area and access to some of the most beautiful beaches, if you’re not already in the area, it is worth the trip! A weekend getaway is calling and here is a list of 13 things to do in Dunedin!

1. Caladesi Island State Park

This park is an island that is only accessible by boat. However, it is well worth the trip. Caladesi Island is a beautifully preserved slice of nature. While you’re on the island you can enjoy the beautiful white sand shores, a walk along the nature trail, paddle boarding and kayaking. If you don’t have a boat, don’t worry, there is a ferry that can take you to and from the island.

2. Honeymoon Island

Another one of Dunedin’s infamous islands, Honeymoon Island is home to several beaches including pet friendly ones. Several species of wildlife reside on the Island, so during a trip you may see owls, tortoises and more! There are many things to do on Honeymoon Island including fishing, swimming, bicycling and hiking.

3. Dunedin Fine Arts Center

For more than four decades, the Dunedin Fine Art Center has been offering exciting opportunities in the arts in the most welcoming way. With multiple locations, beautiful year-round exhibits, educational classes, The Palm Cafe and Gallery Shop, the Dunedin Fine Art Center is more than just a center for the arts.

4. Blue Jays

TD Ballpark, located in the heart of Dunedin, is home to the Toronto Blue Jays for their spring training. If you’re in the area during this season, be sure to swing by the ballpark and catch a game!

5. Hammock Park

This 90 acre park is full of wildlife and foliage. There are 5 miles of nature trails that allow you to take in the scenery. You can also walk to the boardwalk or gaze out on the observation platform. The plethora of picnic tables and pavilions make this a great place to pack a lunch and enjoy an afternoon. There is also a special butterfly garden with an abundance of butterfly species that you can enjoy.

6. Dunedin Historical Society and Museum

The Dunedin Museum contains approximately 2,000 artifacts, 2,500 photographs, and a library containing 200 volumes of local and state history. Included in the collection is an electronic archive of the Dunedin Times Newspaper, from 1924 through 1965. Permanent exhibit segments feature statewide topics such as the railroad and citrus industries.

7. Dunedin Golf Club

Designed by world renowned golf course architect Donald Ross, the club opened January 1, 1927. Today, Dunedin Golf Club is one of the top clubs in the Tampa Bay area. While the club does provide a membership, it is open to the public. After you play a round, be sure to stop by the Fairway Grille or the 19th Hole Lounge for a bite to eat!

8. Kiwanis Sprayground

The Kiwanis Sprayground is an interactive children’s water playground that is filled with several water features to beat the summer heat. The 3,000 square-foot play area includes colorful, action-packed features that spray, gush, dump and pour water from a variety of whimsical devices. Kids can dodge a crocodile that shoots water out of its mouth; slide down the pirate ship, circle the tumble buckets, and dance in and out of the flower water showers cascading through the Sprayground.

9. Dunedin Causeway

As one of Pinellas County’s many bridges, the Dunedin Causeway offers access to many water related activities. You can use the causeway for boat and watercraft launching, fishing, and other recreational activities. There are kayak and sailboat rentals on the western portion of the causeway. The causeway also serves as a entrance for Honeymoon Island State Park.

10. Pedego Electric Bikes

Pedego electric bike rental is the very best way to experience Dunedin and beyond! The nearby bike trails are safe and breathtakingly beautiful. 13. Main Street

From restaurant to shops, breweries and more, Dunedin’s Main Street has it all. The downtown area is completely pedestrian friendly. So, you can park your car and take a stroll from place to place. You can also bring along your four-legged friends as the area is also completely pet friendly. Many restaurants will accommodate your dogs with a fresh bowl of water, and some even have a doggie menu! No matter the time of the day, there are plenty of things to do. Weekends are also usually filled with farmers markets, art festivals and more.
