Kids Eat Free All Summer – Hillsborough and Pinellas County Locations

Jun 17, 2022 | Good News Tampa, Health & Fitness, Kids, Programs & Events

If your child’s school is not offering any meals during the summer break, children 18 years and under can find breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks being served at locations all across the state of Florida. Hillsborough and Pinellas county have a multitude of schools, clubs, camps, libraries and more ready to serve kids with these free meals this summer.

To find the location nearest you visit Summer BreakSpot’s website. You can also find a location by texting the word “Food” or “Comida” to 304-304. Keep in mind that hours of operation vary by location, but the website will provide you with each site’s information which also includes what meals they serve at what time. This program is going on now through August 5th.

Many children rely on the meals provided by their school during the school year, but that’s always left summer in question. Solutions of the past used to include things like summer camp programs, but not every child had a way to participate. Now, through federal funding and state administration, the Summer BreakSpot program is able to run these meal programs in conjunction with local non-profit organizations to provide state-wide summer meal coverage for all kids. As the years go on more and more sites participate, allowing even easier accessibility to the public. Almost all of the participating sites do not require any application, simply show up and receive your healthy, well balanced, free meal!

Summer is a time for kids to be riding their bikes outside, climbing on monkey bars, playing games with their friends, and now they can keep fueled up to do so by stopping by any of these sites and recharging with some good food!

If you’re not in need of a free meal service but would like to contribute to the cause, there are multiple ways to do so. You can donate or volunteer with groups such as Feeding Tampa Bay, or become a sponsor/meal site with Summer BreakSpot. Also keep an eye out in your area as many other local groups and organizations often have programs or events of their own.
